Assignment: My Philosophy of Classroom Guidance
Throughout this semester, you’ve learned about child development, guidance strategies, and the important role of the teacher in shaping a positive classroom environment. Now it’s time to put it all together and write your own Philosophy of Classroom Guidance.
This is your chance to reflect on what you believe about guiding children’s behavior in a respectful, supportive, and developmentally appropriate way. As a teacher, you are a daily model for your students, and how you respond, stay calm, and lead by example makes a big difference.
Assignment Instructions:
In a short paper (at least 4 paragraphs with 5 to 7 sentences each), write your personal philosophy of classroom guidance. Be sure to include:
What you believe about guiding children's behavior. (paragraph 1)
- How should children be treated and supported?
- What approaches or strategies do you think are most helpful?
The importance of teacher self-control and composure. (paragraph 2)
- Why is it important for a teacher to stay calm?
- How does your attitude affect the classroom environment?
Ways you plan to maintain self-control in challenging moments. (paragraph 3)
- What strategies will you use to stay centered, calm, and professional?
How you will model the behavior you want your students to learn. (paragraph 4)
- Think about things like communication, problem-solving, patience, and respect.
Starter Sentence Example:
"I believe that classroom guidance is about teaching children how to manage their emotions, make good choices, and grow in a caring and respectful environment..."
Format Requirements:
- Use an easy-to-read font (such as Arial, Times New Roman, Century Gothic, or Calibri)
- Font size should be no larger than 12 pt
- Double-spaced for easy reading
