When designing research, scholars choose between qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods. Which approach(s) do you think is most useful in business research today to get opinions, and why? Provide an example of a business problem where that method might be effective.

stduent 1:

I think a mixed methods approach is one of the best ways to collect opinions while conducting business research. While qualitative research offers in-depth insights into people's thoughts, feelings, and experiences, quantitative research delivers numerical data that may be examined to spot trends and patterns. Researchers can comprehend a business problem more thoroughly by combining the two approaches (Creswell & Creswell, 2018).

For instance, a business may employ a mixed methods approach to determine the reason for a drop in customer satisfaction. To get quantifiable information regarding customer satisfaction, product quality, and service experiences, the business could first send a survey to hundreds of consumers. After analyzing the survey data, the business could interview or hold focus groups with a chosen group of clients to get more in-depth input on particular issues. This combination would enable the company to gauge the scope of the issue and comprehend its causes.

Because mixed methods research offers both statistical support and individual viewpoints, it is generally quite successful in the corporate world. This method assists companies in making well-informed decisions based on thorough and trustworthy data.

student 2 :

I think mixed methods is the most useful approach because it combines both quantitative and qualitative research and both are very useful. Quantitative uses numbers and data while qualitative relies on characteristics and feelings. Using both methods give businesses a more complete understanding of customer opinions. For example, at my job, Target, they use surveys to collect data (quantitative) about customer satisfaction (qualitative) to ask how their shopping experience was and their satisfaction with products. This information helps Target improve its products, services, and shopping atmosphere. By using the mixed method they're able to make better decisions.
