Scenario
As part of a consulting team for a national DEI think tank, you’ve been asked to evaluate how two major retail companies approach DEI in their organizational culture and operations. Your analysis will be used to advise other companies in the retail sector on best practices and potential pitfalls in implementing DEI initiatives.
Your team will need to prepare a detailed report that compares the two companies across several dimensions of DEI, including hiring practices, leadership diversity, employee satisfaction, and brand reputation. You’ll also assess how leadership can effectively embed DEI into company culture and critique the overall impact of DEI on each organization’s success.
Instructions
Prepare a written report that includes the following components:
Part 1: Describe DEI within Organizations
- Define diversity, equity, and inclusion in the context of organizational behavior.
Part 2: Apply the Scenario
- Compare two companies that are competitors; explain how DEI manifests for both companies in:
- Hiring
- Team collaboration
- Leadership
- Describe at least two examples from both competitors to illustrate key points.
Part 3: Real World Application - Assess the Value of DEI in Organizational Culture
- Analyze how DEI at both companies contributes to:
- Employee satisfaction and retention.
- Brand reputation and market competitiveness.
- Discuss potential risks or challenges when DEI is not prioritized.
- Use at least two examples (these examples can be the same for both companies).
Part 4: Determine Leadership Best Practices for Implementing DEI - Overall
- Identify leadership behaviors and strategies that foster DEI (e.g., inclusive decision-making, bias training, transparent communication).
- Recommend specific actions leaders should take to embed DEI into the company culture.
- Fully describe at least three examples from the course module and your own research.
Part 5: Critique the Impact of DEI on Organizations
- Provide a critical evaluation of DEI’s overall impact on organizational performance.
- Has DEI been successful or not for Company A? Why or why not? Provide examples from your research.
- Has DEI been successful or not for the competing company, Company B? Why or why not? Provide examples from your research.
