As diversity and inclusion have become strategic pillars of business, it has required changing how employees and employers communicate. On pages 127-131 of the textbook, the author provides advice on how to communicate more inclusively. But what does this look like in the real world?
Connect with someone in your life who works in a professional capacity – a friend, a family member, or a member of your local community – and interview them about their experience with diversity, inclusion, and communication in their workplace. You may identify your own questions to ask, or you can use the following questions:
What positive changes have you seen happen in your workplace around diversity and inclusion over the past five years?
What negative changes have you seen happen in the workplace?
- How have these changes impacted the way employers communicate with their employees and their potential employees?
- How have they impacted the way employees communicate with each other?
- Compare the responses from your interviewee to the advice provided in the textbook. What similarities and differences did you find?
