Overview

Thinking about media can be difficult because so much of our daily lives is transacted through media. On a day-to-day basis, we may not give it much more thought than tying our shoes or driving our car. (In fact, some people try to use media while doing both of these things -- and that's part of the point!) We spend almost two thirds of our waking hours using media, either consciously or subconsciously. Much of this media use is intentional, and much of the time we use more than one medium at a time.

In fact, if you are an average American, you spend about 5 1/2 hours each day using mass media while doing something else; however, you spend another 5 1/2 hours using media exclusively, much of that on a cellphone. That means more than 11 hours a day, every day, you are using at least one form of media.

How much time each day do you spend with media?

Where do you go to 'get away' from media, including social media (is this even possible in your life)?

Do you use more or less media than you did at an earlier period of your life?
