Communications Question

Organization: Shein (Fast Fashion Retailer)

Problem: Allegations of Unethical Labor Practices, Environmental Harm, and Cultural ThefT

  • However, over the past few years, Shein has faced massive backlash for:
    1. Labor violations – Investigations in 2022 and 2023 revealed sweatshop-like conditions, with workers putting in 18-hour shifts and barely getting days off.
    2. Environmental concerns – Shein produces tens of thousands of new items daily, fueling overconsumption and contributing heavily to textile waste and pollution.
    3. Stealing designs – Multiple small designers and indie brands accused Shein of copying their work without credit or compensation.
    4. Lack of transparency – Reports showed Shein offered little visibility into its supply chain, raising concerns about modern slavery and exploitation.
