Comparative Economics

Overview

We have spent considerable time discussing the current bout of inflation in the United States, and the most recent CPI and PCE statistics indicate that the overall price level is now inflating at a slower rate. At this time, many experts believe the Federal Reserve will be able to achieve a return to 2% inflation without additional interest rate increases. Prices for many food and energy products are declining, and prices for most other consumer products appear to be stabilizing. One of the few areas where prices are still increasing rapidly are housing costs.

From your personal experience, do you agree that housing prices are still increasing? Have you found other price categories that are still subject to sharp inflation in the past year? Do you think the US economy will enter a recession in the coming year?
