Overview:
When developing patient care plans there are many different options for treatments and therapies. The therapies, medications and patient goals are tailored to meet the specific needs of each patient population. Patient populations such as Cystic Fibrosis patients have well established detailed treatment plans complete with education, therapies and prescribed medications. Effective treatment plans should have strong foundations and be supported by evidence. Reviewing evidence and updating treatments is key to successfully managing chronic diseases.
During this week's discussion board we will discuss the literature associated with your PPOP and explore how it stands up to the GRADE process for reviewing evidence.
Instructions:
- Review discussion board policies and grading criteria.
- Consider your chosen PPOP, and review current peer reviewed literature (within 5 years) for treatments and therapies that would be relevant to your PPOP and choose 2 artifacts that will aid in developing a treatment plan for your PPOP.
- For this discussion address the following prompts including citations as needed in the APA format.
- Chose on an outcome related to your PPOP and develop a PICO question. For example: In the COPD population will COPD action plans improve medication adherence compared to no COPD action plan.
- Locate two peer reviewed articles that describe a therapeutic intervention or treatment that is relevant to your PPOP.
- Use the GRADE method to evaluate your articles. Share your reasoning behind grading your articles and include any imprecision, bias, and limitations.
- Share the current evidence and discuss the strengths and weaknesses included in the articles. How would these articles relate to the development of a care plan for your patient?
- Please post your initial response by Thursday of Week 1
- Respond to at least two of your peers and discuss their upgrading or downgrading of their selected articles based on the GRADE process by Sunday of Week 1.
Learning Objectives:
- Apply the tools of evidence-based medicine to evaluate sources (CLO 1)
- Describe the limitations of evidence based practice (CLO 1)
- Explain how the evidence-based practice drive treatment plans (CLO 1)
