This is a slightly different discussion forum. Part 1 is designed to help you envision how the process might feel to employees who are not used to moving to new technologies. Parts 2 and 3 are designed to help you prepare for your implementation plan, due Sunday. You will be posting on three separate but closely related topics. Each of these topics is vital to consider as you implement a new EHR system.
Part 1: Reflection on Your Experience
Think of your personal experiences in learning new software or technology. Most of us have had them, even if learning to use a new computer program or smartphone app. Do you have any experience implementing health information technology? Was learning new technology easy for you? Did you follow a specific process or strategy? What did you do that led to success in learning? As you talk with one another, share strategies and tips for mastering new technologies.
Part 2: Application - Review the following website: Health IT playbook.Links to an external site.
This website describes the steps for health information technology implementation. In some cases, healthcare organizations may not have the time or resources to complete all steps. Consider your chosen healthcare scenario from the project. With your chosen demographics and population, is it possible to apply all implementation steps? If a step is skipped or rushed, can an implementation still be successful? Is there one step that is so essential that it must not be skipped at any cost?
Share 1-2 techniques that you recommend leaders use to ensure each step is given appropriate time and resources to help ensure a successful implementation. Please share examples to support your reasons.
Part 3: Application - Data Migration
Again, thinking about your project, what do you need to consider concerning data migration when implementing a new electronic health record?
Have a Conversation With Each Other
Use the conversations to help you prepare for your upcoming presentation. As you engage in the conversations, consider the roles a healthcare leader plays in the entire implementation process. Ask questions of one another. If you are stuck in an area, talk it through with your peers. Support one another in their work, as well.
