Overview
Step 1: Pick an issue/topic.
Step 2: Find 5 facts about your topic and list those in bullet points and include the websites/sources where they were found
Step 3: From the 5, choose 2 facts that interest you the most, put an asterisk (*) by the 2 facts, and write the following report.
Step 4: Complete the table on the worksheet by using 4 types of sources: Social Media/Internet, Mainstream News, our textbook, and a Government source.
Step 5: Discuss your findings by addressing these questions about EACH SOURCE.
Do any of the sources have a vested interest that might influence their report? Vested means that they have a purpose or agenda for the ways the information is presented - they are hoping that they will get something from the reader in return (wording is everything). Would you recommend any of these sources to other researchers? Why or why not? What did you expect to find from each type of source? (Deduction) Do these sources match your expectations? How? (Deduction) What do you conclude about each source as you checked these facts? (Inference) Step 6: On a reference page: Give the complete name of the news article/report (website in the citation), the textbook authors and title, and the government organization information and website. Sources must be properly cited on a reference page
