Module 7: Critical Thinking

Overview

Cultural advancements including changes in popular media and technology have fundamentally altered how wars are perceived by the public. For this assignment, we will examine how the intersection of changes in popular media and technology have influenced the public’s perception of important events.

In this assignment, you will analyze how technological advancements influenced the public’s perception of the Vietnam War and 9/11, two vastly different conflicts.

Instructions:

Write 2-3 pages (excluding the APA-formatted title and references pages)

  • Compare and contrast how technology influenced public perceptions of the Vietnam War and 9/11.
    • Consider differences in:
      • The type of technology used (television vs. internet)
      • The level of public access to information
      • The ability to shape the narrative of the war effort
    • Summarize the key findings of your analysis.
    • Briefly contemplate the potential future implications of technological advancements on future conflicts and public opinion.
  • Use specific examples of news broadcasts, photographs, videos, or social media posts to support your arguments.
  • Incorporate primary credible resources (diaries, letters, interviews) and secondary sources (scholarly articles, media history books) to strengthen your analysis. The CSU Global Library is a good place to find these references (available in the left-hand navigation panel).
  • Cite the resources using APA-formatted citations conforming to the CSU Global Writing Center (available in the left-hand navigation panel).
