Brand Yourself

Overview

Hi, I need you to write a 1000-word individual reflection paper for my Strategic Brand Leadership course.

The goal is to reflect on my personal brand development process and how I applied the POEM framework (Paid, Owned, Earned, Shared media) to shape it. Here's everything you need to know to create the paper and a short slide presentation for my video:

Personal Brand Theme:

I'm building my personal brand as “The Business Transformer with a Startup Mindset.”

I’m a student in Business Transformation who’s passionate about solving real-world problems with innovation, practicality, and a hands-on approach — especially in startups, entrepreneurship, and digital strategy.

1. POEM Framework Use:

Paid Media: Maybe I’ll run LinkedIn ads or sponsor a post in the future to grow professional reach.

Owned Media: My LinkedIn profile (main platform) and maybe a basic personal website/portfolio in the future.

Earned Media: Endorsements, recommendations, and shares from classmates, professors, and collaborators.

Shared Media: LinkedIn activity (likes, comments, shared posts), and an Instagram profile showcasing my university projects and startup concepts with a professional twist.

2. Portfolio & Branding Audit:

LinkedIn exists but needs improvement (visual branding, headline, keywords).

Instagram currently not used for branding, but I could create a new one or reframe my current one to show my “startup journey.”

(SWOT ANALYSIS):

Strengths: include my hands-on experience with real business projects during university, leadership roles in team settings and my part-time job, and a strong entrepreneurial mindset backed by several startup ideas.

Weaknesses: involve inconsistent content creation, a LinkedIn profile that lacks professional polish, and limited reach beyond my immediate academic circle.

Opportunities: lie in using content to showcase my skills, engaging more with professional communities on LinkedIn and Instagram, and building a personal website or digital portfolio in the future.

Threats: include the highly competitive job market, limited visibility due to algorithmic constraints, and the risk of misaligned messaging across platforms.

Unique Value Proposition (UVP):

For example: “I bring a startup mindset to business transformation. With hands-on experience in solving real problems, I focus on turning innovative ideas into practical actions. I blend creativity, discipline, and data-driven thinking to help organizations grow smarter.”

This UVP highlights what sets me apart: I’m practical, innovative, and results-oriented. I’m not only focused on ideas — I care about execution and making a measurable impact.

3. Social Media Strategy:

LinkedIn will be refined to:

Highlight my degree, skills, and hands-on business projects.

Feature a custom banner and an ‘About’ section focusing on business transformation and entrepreneurship.

Instagram will be used to post highlights from my business school journey, group projects, and innovation challenges (like a “startup journal” or “behind the scenes”).

4. Elevator Pitch Summary (for the video):

“I’m a business transformation student with a passion for turning ideas into action. Whether it’s in startups or strategy, I love building practical solutions that solve real problems. I combine creativity, data, and discipline to help brands and businesses grow.”

What to Include in the Paper:

Introduction – What personal branding is and why it’s important.

My personal brand statement and how I chose it.

How I applied the POEM framework.

What I learned from auditing my current brand presence.

How I used (or plan to use) LinkedIn and Instagram to grow my personal brand.

How the elevator pitch reflects my identity and career goals.

Final reflection – what I gained from this process and how it helps my job search.

Presentation Slides (for the video):

Just prepare a few slides (around 5) that show:

My personal brand statement and focus.

POEM framework (how each part applies to me).

LinkedIn profile screenshots or planned improvements.

Instagram branding concept.

Elevator pitch script.
