COUN 5630 Research and Evaluation

Overview

Purpose:

This final mini assignment completes your research proposal. You will present your proposed methodology, explain your proposed data collection and analysis plan, and write a conclusion summarizing the significance of your study. This section should read as if you are preparing to submit the proposal for approval—while clearly noting that you will not be conducting the actual research.

Proposed Methodology (2-3 pages)

Describe in detail how you would conduct the study if it were implemented. Your methodology must align with your research questions and literature review.

Required Sections:

  1. Intended Participants – Target population, sampling method, inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  2. Proposed Research Design – State whether it is qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods, and justify why it is the best choice for your study.
  3. Proposed Procedure for Data Collection – Step-by-step explanation of how you would gather data (without actual implementation). Address ethical considerations and informed consent.
  4. Proposed Instruments – List tools, measures, or assessments you would use, including reliability and validity information.

Proposed Data Collection (1-2 pages)

Explain how you would manage, analyze, and present the data if it were collected.

Required Sections:

  1. Proposed Descriptive Statistics – Include a sample APA-formatted table showing how participant demographics or variable data would be presented (use mock data or placeholders).
  2. Proposed Statistical or Qualitative Analysis Method – Identify the analysis method(s) you would use (e.g., t-test, regression, thematic analysis) and explain why they are appropriate.
  3. Expected Findings – Provide a reasoned prediction of possible results, grounded in your literature review.

Conclusion (2-3)

Summarize your proposal, reinforce its importance, and connect it to the broader field of counseling/psychology.

Your conclusion should clearly address:

  1. Why the study should be done.
  2. The specific purpose of the study and the research questions it addresses.
  3. The rationale for selecting your research design and methods over other options.
  4. Potential implications of your proposed study for concentrations specific practice, policy, or future research.
  5. How your study fits within the broader scholarly conversation.
