Pick a current policy issue of your choosing. Write a policy brief that summarizes the bill as if you would be distributing it to a legislator or advocate during a short lobbying meeting. The brief should be focused on a current federal, state, or local legislative bill. The brief should contain the following items and not exceed 2 pages in length. At least three properly formatted APA citations are required.
- Title of the Legislation or Policy Issue, your name and position (1 points)
- Background on the problem it addresses-2-4 sentences including a story and at least three statistics (5 points)
- Details on Legislation including: bill number, sponsors and any other relevant details (2 points)
- Summary of the Legislation-What is being proposed? Who will benefit? What will they receive? (4 points)
- Status of the Legislation-has it become law? Had a hearing? Passed a committee? (3 points)
- Recommendations for dealing with this policy proposal or law-3 bullets (these are your opinions on the bill). (3 points)
- For More Information-At least 2 references for further information on this policy-one should be a public policy advocacy organization (websites are fine). (2 points)
