Complete an Analysis of "A Star is Born"
- Each team member will be required to watch an assigned movie and complete an analysis of the characters/clients including the following components:
- how you conceptualize the case, what you determine the diagnosis/diagnoses is for each character/client, what level of treatment is recommended, what theoretical approach/evidenced based treatment (EBP) should be utilized (Include research to support), and a treatment plan including 3 goals, 5 objectives, and the technique/techniques that will be used to help the client meet that objective.
- The Treatment plan flows from your diagnosis and EBP as well as your beliefs about human nature
- Case Conceptualization focuses on the clients thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. What do you believe about human nature? Why do you think the client thinks, acts, feels the way they do? What is the payoff for their behaviors (not just the substance use behaviors), Why do they do what they do in relationships?, What needs are they trying to meet? Is trauma an issue to be addressed?
- Diagnosis: DSM SUD diagnosis with "as evidenced by" support for the criterion. Is this a dual diagnosis case? If so, what is the dual diagnosis/es?
- The requirements for these assignments can be met either through a written report addressing the components described above or through active participation in an online Treatment Team Meeting. In order to receive credit for an online analysis, you must come prepared and actively participate, having outlined your analysis of the components (Above) in preparation for the meeting. Submit a minimum of 800 words addressing the information provided above.

Case study:
Susan is 38 years old, the daughter of Korean immigrants, a devout Christian, and a small business owner. Her husband, George, is 43 years old, White, a believing but less adherent Christian, and a financial manager at a local marketing firm. They have been married for 8 years and have two sons, ages 5 and 7. Susan requested the session for help with communication and conflict resolution in the marriage. When George enters the session, he makes a statement that indicates he believes this is Susan’s counseling session and he is here for this one session to support her. He agrees that there is an issue with communication in the marriage but believes that Susan needs the help in learning to better communicate. He describes her as wishy-washy, inconsistent, and vague with what she wants. She agrees with his description and says that she knows what she wants but has a hard time sticking with it. Since she lacks clarity and conviction when approaching an issue, he ends up making a decision and then she defers to him, later feeling overlooked and frustrated. He praises her for being successful as a small business owner and she admits that she is capable in that arena but can’t seem to translate it to her marriage.
