Overview
3000 words essay - a critical analysis of the reading attached
The essay should critically discuss and assess the text, with an emphasis on its methodological aspects, implications and significance. Your discussion should scrutinise the text from a critical/analytical point of view. This does not necessarily mean that you have to disagree with the author you are reading. It does not matter where you stand on particular issues. What matters is that you can dissect the arguments and develop a stance in relation to them, by reflecting upon the plausibility of their various premises and the robustness of the logic whereby the author brings those premises together to draw certain conclusions.
Make sure you have a good balance between (i) outlining what the author says and how they set up their argument as an intervention in debates (ii) analysing the ontological and epistemological implications of their argument for social research (iii) applying their argument to concrete research questions and/or studies (iv) weighing up and critically assessing their argument and its implications.
There are some question to consider for critical analysis in the attached screenshot. You may wish to consider some the questions below in critical discussion. These are just for spurs to thinking, rather than as structure for the essay that must be strictly followed. Feel free to omit any questions that not relevant for the reading.
