- Working as a Human Service professional can be challenging when there are similarities between you and your client.
Definitely it is important to work through your baggage before trying to help clients work through their baggage. Let's say you have a new client and you started to build a trust relationship. As weeks progress and you are learning more and more about the abuse they experienced and you begin to have triggers. You begin to have internal monologues that interferes with helping the client. Unfortunately, the client is starting to feel you are disconnected during the sessions and not mentally there. Talk about the challenges the client may be feeling, challenges you may be feeling and how would you handle the situation?
